Macomb County

Macomb County, the third most populated county in the state, is located in Southeast Michigan along the west Lake St. Clair shoreline, adjacent to the greater Detroit area to the south.

The county features a diverse economy, strong in the area of auto-industry production. Its geographic diversity includes heavily populated urban areas in the south, to a ruralized, country-like setting in the north, including some of the best apple orchards in the state.

Today, Macomb County is home to one of the world’s largest and most productive industrial corridors where you will find factories and research facilities of the Big Three automakers, the U.S. Army Tank - Automotive and Armaments Command and other manufacturing companies. Manufacturing is Macomb County’s leading industry, employing roughly one-third of the workforce.

Businesses engaged in providing services account for another third of the county’s jobs. Major employers include St. John Health System, St. Joseph’s Mercy of Macomb, Bi-County Hospital and Macomb Community College. The third largest provider of jobs in the county, about 20 percent, is retail businesses.
